SAFE IN THE SUN ZERO WASTE STYLE

Summer is my absolute favorite time of the year. I love sitting by the pool with a good book and spending time working in my garden. However, the sun is something we don’t mess around with in my home. With a history of skin cancer, I’ve always been taught the importance of staying out of the sun and wearing sunscreen. Even more important now since my dermatologist found some suspicious moles during my yearly skin check-up this year. Honestly, I really didn’t want to spend my favorite time of the year cooped up inside hiding from the sun’s harmful rays. So instead, I did some serious research and hunting to find the best zero waste sun protection options.

PROTECT YOUR SKIN NATURALLY

Of course, the simplest and most economical way to protect your skin zero waste style is to stay out of the sun. Sitting in the shade is undoubtedly the best option for protecting your skin! Unfortunately, my backyard garden is not in a shady spot so the second best zero waste sun safety option is covering up.  Using a big floppy hat, wearing a long-sleeved shirt, and putting on your shades are all excellent ways to stay safe from the sun’s rays.

NATURAL ZERO WASTE SUNSCREEN

My favorite zero waste sun safety alternative is using Organic SPF30 Zero Waste Sunscreen! There’s a fantastic sunscreen available in the Tiny Yellow Bungalow online zero waste shop that I chose myself and highly recommend. It comes in a recyclable/reusable glass jar. It is safe, natural, vegan, and effective so no need to worry about harming your body or the environment. This really is the most affordable, environmentally friendly, healthful choice I could find available on the market. I am so happy to share it with you!

DIY SUNSCREEN

For the DIYers out there, did you know you can make your own sunscreen?? I haven’t tried this myself, because my city unfortunately doesn’t have massive bulk shopping stores with zinc oxide and shea butter sans packaging readily available. More importantly, I’m a busy momma and rather than testing out recipes, I’d rather purchase a zero waste sunscreen from a trusted brand and get on with my summer fun in the sun! However, if you’re keen and have the time, head over to Pinterest for do-it-yourself natural sunscreen recipes. There are heaps of natural and eco bloggers out there that have tested recipes to share that you can try out!
